"Life in the Long Tail" is the philosophy behind this blog.

It comes from the title of a book (that I have to confess that I haven't actually read) "The Long Tail- why the future is selling less of more." If you've not heard about it, then Wikipedia probably does a better job of explaining it than I would.

Essentially, everyone's tastes differ from the mainstream somewhere, whether it's in what they like to read, watch, listen to, or do. There's simply no such thing as "the average person", and once you understand that, then you understand that everyone is unique. Sure, there might be thousands, even millions of people out there writing blogs about technology, photography or the minutiae of what they got up to over the weekend. But none of them are quite like you or me.

This is about the things that grab me- whether it's from the latest blockbuster, something on an obscure website, or just my own personal experience. I'm not making any money from this- so I'm not aiming to amass a huge audience so that I can then sell their attention on to advertisers.

So although I understand that the chances that you'll share all of my interests are pretty slim, I hope there's something here that you find interesting. With a little luck, it will be something you hadn't seen before. Or maybe something you have, but in a way that you hadn't thought about it.

Either way, I hope that there's something here that you enjoy.
